Eric’s novel “The Aquarians” weaves together information about 2012, the Age of Aquarius, the 11:11 Phenomenon, and some amazing research currently being done with dolphin ultrasonic imaging and communication.

TWO EXAMPLES OF MODERN MYSTICISM’S CONNECTION TO 2012:

The Age of Aquarius –

Astronomers throughout history have noted that different star-clusters (constellations) appear to circle the earth around its equator. This ring of constellations has been named many different things over time, but the term “Zodiac,” which literally means “circle of animals” is the one most commonly used today.

First and foremost, astronomical ages are measurements of time. As noticed by the Maya and modern astronomers alike, the rising sun of every year’s vernal equinox appears to ascend within the space of the same constellation for a period of roughly 2,100 years. Then, due to a slight wobble in earth’s rotation, the vernal equinox sun will rise within the boundaries of the next zodiac sign for another 2,100 years. This phenomenon is known as the precession of the equinox. The word “precession” is used because this sun/constellation relationship takes place in reverse order than what we are used to. For instance, two thousand years ago, the age of Aries was giving way to the age of Pisces, and now Pisces is shifting to the Age of Aquarius, which is the 11th sign of the zodiac.

This short explanation describes the astro-nomical mechanics of the zodiac, but we must also consider the astro-logical aspects as well, for these two studies have been interrelated since mankind’s first cosmological observations. In the course of studying star patterns and relationships, humanity has assigned certain macro-attributes to each age to mirror the micro-attributes observed in people born under each particular sign. Hence, many of the same descriptions used to identify a person born under Pisces (yearning for answers yet stuck in a state of mental rigidity) have been used to describe the Age of Pisces itself. Of course, all this leads to why the Age the Aquarius has been labeled as the age of yearning for harmony and universal truth: It simply represents an expanded view of the micro personality traits found here on earth.

And here is where an interesting connection begins to be made regarding 2012. As we know, this is when the Maya predicted that one era (which by their own records was earmarked with visions of war and darkness) would end and the beginning of a new era (which must be something different than the old) would occur. In this context, it is startling to note that the peace-centered Age of Aquarius will begin within the same general time-frame in which the Mayan calendar ends. In fact, modern Mayan shamans now refer to this “new age” as Itza, and many of them are quick to point out that the Age of Aquarius and Itza are closely related prophetic visions of the same future.

There can be no denying that we are feeling the influence and pull of the new age of Aquarius. In fact, the very term “new age,” whether it is used to define a type of music or spiritual belief system, has always been a direct reference to the new Age of Aquarius. And while it may be argued as to when Aquarius will officially begin, this is a moot point because there is no “official” start date to the coming age. The fact that humanity is being drawn into an expanding age of enlightenment, knowledge, connectivity and global cooperation seems to be proof enough that Aquarius has begun.

Connecting The 11:11 Phenomenon with 2012 & The Age of Aquarius

Before long, a majority of the world’s population will have heard something about the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012, the coming Age of Aquarius, and the relatively recent mystery of “the 11:11 phenomenon.” Here is how these things are all related:

Part One:
THE MAYAN CALENDAR

The Maya represent an ancient Meso-American culture in transition. Building upon knowledge gleaned first through the Inca, Olmec, and Toltec before them, the Maya had become an advanced civilization capable of designing and erecting amazing structures, managing sustainable agriculture, forming incredible mathematical theories, and making astoundingly accurate astronomical predictions based on their study of the movement of the cosmos. What’s more, they were a culture grounded in spiritual mysticism, shamanic healing and prophecy. During its classic period (approximately 900 years ago) the vast Mayan empire thrived primarily in the Yucatan peninsula of southern Mexico.

It was the astronomers and mathematicians of this society who created a calendar so precise that it could track the rhythms of nature (the Mayan comprehension of time) with a degree of accuracy rivaled only by modern computers. This calendar, a three-geared machine marked with numbers and glyphs, is NOT the circular, face-in-the-middle disc of the Aztecs, but rather a device capable of logging over 5,200 individual days before starting its cycle all over again. When this calendar was created roughly 1,000 years ago, Mayan astronomers of the time realized that they were already 4,000 years into a grand cycle of days which they called the “Long-Count.” It is this cycle that will end in 2012.

It is important to note that the Mayan calendar itself is not an instrument of prophecy. Any prophetic visions regarding the end of the long-count were made by the priests and shamans of the time, who recorded their visions in glyphs, songs, oral histories and books. One of these preserved books, now known as the Dresden Codex, makes it clear that the last day of this long-count era will be marked by unrest, war, flood and darkness. It is compelling to note that this 78-paged book ends on page 74, with the last four pages remaining blank. As far as we know, the Maya made no predictions regarding the long-count cycle following the one we are currently in.

It should also be noted that the date of the calendar’s end, December 21st, 2012, is a close approximation. While the exact date has been argued for decades, it seems logical that the convergence of the winter solstice, planetary alignment and the rising sun’s relation to the “dark rift” center of our galaxy on that day would make it an ominous occasion worthy of ending the current long-count’s passage of days. So, were the Mayans predicting the end of time? No. However, if the question is, “Were they forecasting a dramatic and challenging end to this time-cycle?” The answer, most definitely, is yes.

EVERY NEW BEGINNING COMES FROM SOME OTHER BEGINNING’S END:

As soon as we realize that the Maya were never imagining a literal “end of time,” our focus naturally shifts to the question: So what happens after 2012?

Remember, to the Maya, time was more about the natural cycling of nature than it was about tracking a linear path to a terminal end-point. This is extremely important because, in nature, what follows death and destruction is birth and renewal. Spring follows winter, day follows night, activity follows dormancy.

Regarding 2012, when Earth begins to cross the equator of the Milky Way Galaxy, this may represent the moment when humanity emerges into the light after suffering a long period of darkness. It just may be the time when a long era of war gives way to one of peace, when hate gives birth to love, when dogmatic religion relinquishes its grip on genuine spirituality.

It is not illogical to make such forecasts, for we now have more than enough data about ourselves to start computing a very meaningful equation: We know what we have been. We have a long history confirming our habits of violence, hatred, distrust and greed. This is very important information because it provides a base for defining what a “new beginning” would represent: namely, a shift away from everything that we have been and a big step forward towards everything we have the potential to be. There is nothing stopping us from being compassionate caregivers to each other and this planet in the future, there is only the destructive precedent we have set for ourselves in the past.

Which brings us back to the year 2012. If it were only the Mayans who had come up with this date as a time of momentous transition, we could easily dismiss their prophecy as just another apocalyptic vision among many others throughout history. But this is not the case: numerous cultures seem to share eerily similar predictions for the same general moment in time. From Hopi Indians to modern shamans and mystics, from trance-induced prophets to modern-day scientists, climatologists and economists, there is a consensus that dramatic change is imminent in our near future. We are at a crossroads, and every crossroads provides an opportunity to take either the right or wrong path.

And here is where the snake begins to eat its own tail. We know the wrong path, for it is the one that has gotten us to where we are now, yet we are afraid to change course. We realize that choosing a status-quo mentality will only expedite a worst-case scenario, yet we are reluctant to embrace the fact that we must change if we want to survive. We must move toward the light at the end of this dark moment. We must embrace the love and hope that is trying to flower from of a thicket of hatred and fear.

In the words of Gandhi, we must become the change we wish to see. Our destiny has not been written for us, it will be written by this generation living out the last days of one time-system and the first days of the next. In other words, we are the people we’ve been waiting for to save this planet.
